Rental Assistance
Demonstration Projects
Designed for the San Francisco Mayor’s Office on Housing & Community Development, with funding by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Rental Assistance Demonstration Program (RAD), these five projects are part of a unique model program that allows private, non-profit developers to rehabilitate and manage San Francisco Housing Authority properties.
JFK Tower Apartments
Over the course of five years, PTA worked with local developers on the occupied renovation of over 450 units of affordable housing for seniors and disabled persons, undertaking seismic and MEP upgrades to reduce operational expenses, improve building resilience, and improve indoor air quality. We also emphasized providing quality finishes, lighting, and spatial layouts. The design also adds new spaces to support building operations and tenant services.
Through the RAD program, San Francisco ultimately renovated 29 properties previously owned by the San Francisco Housing Authority, totaling over 4,000 affordable housing units throughout the City.
