North Beach Pool & Clubhouse

The design of the North Beach Pool and Clubhouse was forged through months of intensive consultation with the community and the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department. The goal: create an aquatic recreation center that serves the many different needs of the community and establishes a new landmark for the neighborhood.

The scope included a new community center for preschool and after-school programs, undertaking a complete gut renovation of the existing natatorium, and an addition with upgraded locker rooms and a community center. At the highly visible Lombard Street entrance, the building opens up to establish direct sightlines to the pools, creating a sense of welcome and connection to the interior. The new butterfly roof opens to the playground, giving the community center a more prominent and cohesive presence.
