Senior Project Architect

John Thompson brought three decades of experience in architecture, practicing extensively in multifamily residential work in the Bay Area as well as on the East Coast, when he became part of the PTA team in 2025. Our firm’s design legacy, locally-grown ethos and mission-driven practice drew him in, and his vast knowledge—informed in part by the two terms he served on the El Cerrito Design Review Board—grounds and enriches every project. In his time at PTA, he’s worked on a 187-unit senior affordable housing high-rise project in San Francisco as well as on a new infrastructure building at San Francisco International Airport. John has found this latter project, part of a larger design-build redevelopment of the site, particularly challenging as well as inspiring. John holds a B.Arch. from Virginia Tech and is licensed in California, Nevada, Florida, and Maryland.
